Hōō Maniwa (真庭 鳳凰, Maniwa Hōō) is the acclaimed leader of the Maniwa Ninja Corps and the leader of its Bird Squad. After Kiki Shikizaki's soul possesses him, he is driven mad and becomes the eleventh opponent Yasuri Shichika fights for the Deviant Blades.

Personality

His personality is quite different from his fellow ninja heads, claiming he has a little more common sense than the others.

As his name suggests, he wears a phoenix-like uniform.

Plot

Volume Eleven

His battle with Emonzaemon.

He finds Mekki inside of a cave and claims it. Shortly after claiming it they are caught by Emonzaemon Sōda who's out to kill him. But he and Pengin Maniwa escape leaving Oshidori Maniwa to fight him. In the end Hōō was possessed by the spirit of Kiki Shikizaki, being Shichika Yasuri's real opponent.

Abilities

When possessed by Shikizaki.

Being the head of all Maniwa heads, Hōō prowess as Shinobi is very high, on par with Emonzaemon, one of the strongest characters in the series. With Danzaien, he can also incapacitate any mere bandits with ease. Hōō is also notorious for his cruel personality, killing Kawauso Maniwa without feeling anything, he has proven himself to be a deadly warrior.

• Ninpō: Inochi Musubi (の結合生命) - This technique allows him to stay alive from Sengoku period to the present. Hōō steals life from various people and uses their vitality to lengthen his lifespan.
• Ninpō: Danzaien - This technique allows Hōō to decapitate anyone with a swing of his arm, as shown when he severs his own left arm to form an alliance with Togame, though he regains the use of said lost arm shortly after from Kawauso Maniwa's corpse. This ability was originally called Namagoroshi by the Aioi Clan, the ninja clan murdered by the Maniwa.
• Ultimate Technique: Mōdoku Tōyo (猛毒刀与) - A stance came up by a genius swordsman in 150 years, it is said to be undodgeable. With this technique, Hōō is blessed with incredible speed and power to the forward thrust of his sword. Additionally, he can even freely change the thrust of the sword, as if he's flying. However this three-pronged technique was still no match for Shichika's Kyotōryū. This technique requires Dokutō Mekki.
